Epic of the Amazins: 37 AGS – 018

About this project: I am no Chaucer or Homer (in the Greek poet sense), but through the 2023 season, I will be writing a poem about each Mets game in an epic poem style. Obviously, I hope this will not be another tragedy! The poem will be in the left column, and the translation will be on the right.

While a struggling offense may be easy to blame,

And a spotty bullpen making us nervous sick,

Losing to King Kershaw – Well, there is no shame.

He is a legend, succeeding in thin and thick,

Getting to 200 historic wins, a legendary foe.

He has indeed shut down many a stick.

Seven losses in a young season, we can let it go,

And hope we can bounce back tomorrow,

When we send our own legend to deal a blow.

Yeah, our offense is inconsistent and maybe struggling a bit and our bullpen can be frustrating at times, losing to Kershaw…well, everyone does.

He got to 200 wins with this victory against the Mets and he has shut the door on many offenses to get there. He is only the 117th pitcher to do so and has a better winning percentage than any of the others.

The Mets have just lost seven games and do have a winning record. We can just hope to bounce back on Wednesday when we have another 200 win pitcher, Max Scherzer, pitch for us.
