About this project: I am no Chaucer or Homer (in the Greek poet sense), but through the 2023 season, I will be writing a poem about each Mets game in an epic poem style. Obviously, I hope this will not be another tragedy! The poem will be in the left column, and the translation will be on the right.
Finally home, the Amazins face the Fish.
Six shutout stanzas has Megill looking the ace,
As the opps strain and struggle to find the dish.
Tyler Long Beach allows just one past first base,
Giving up three hits, walks two, strikes out three.
Second win in two starts…starting out at a strong pace.
Amazins 12 times get first for free.
Lindor and Alonso each take the ball deep,
As the Flushing Faithful fill Citi with glee.
After seven straight road games, the Mets finally have their home opener against the Marlins. Tyler Megill was strong through six innings while the Marlins pitchers are issuing a lot of walks.
Only one runner made it past first against Megill as he allowed just three hits and two walks. He has won both his starts.
The Mets walked 12 times in the game with Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso hitting home runs in front of a very happy crowd at CitiField.
