About this project: I am no Chaucer or Homer (in the Greek poet sense), but through the 2023 season, I will be writing a poem about each Mets game in an epic poem style. Obviously, I hope this will not be another tragedy! The poem will be in the left column, and the translation will be on the right.
Senga struggles, can’t escape five with his fork,
But lucky for him, Yellowfantsstaff can’t find the plate,
Issue enough balls to walk back to New York.
In the second, they score six on one hit to calibrate.
In the fifth, six more on one, story is the same.
In the ninth we tack on four more and celebrate.
El Sonriso strikes hard, homes seven in this game.
A grand slam and a base clearing double,
Setting a new personal record to add to his fame.
