About this project: I am no Chaucer or Homer (in the Greek poet sense), but through the 2023 season, I will be writing a poem about each Mets game in an epic poem style. Obviously, I hope this will not be another tragedy! The poem will be in the left column, and the translation will be on the right.
Canha The Quiet emerges today’s hero,
Helping young Megill win in a solid start,
And a bullpen who posted an afternoon of zero.
It is all that we could hope for, a staff doing their part,
And different bats doing their different things,
As we have faith that they all will have the heart.
The new catcher, Navaez, is a nice surprise in the hits he brings.
It is early, this Scribe knows, but I believe,
Without a solid backstop, you cannot get the rings.
Mark Canha was 3-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs to help Tyler Megill get the win. Megill gave up two runs in five innings and struck out seven while the bullpen held the Marlins scoreless in the final four innings.
In three games, the Mets pitching staff has been solid and different guys have helped at the plate. It gives us hope that this team will know how to win this season.
The new catcher, Omar Navaez, has had a solid start at the plate for the Mets…I don’t think you can win a World Series without a solid catcher.
